I just received the Mini 2 a day ago, and I’m pretty impressed with it for its size. It actually sounds better (not AS loud, but better) than my original Oontz Angle. The bass/low sound reproduction is pretty incredible for something this small. The only down side i see so far is at full volume, the volume seems to dip on the highs/mids when “music” really starts. I assume this is from the power being demanded by the speaker for the lows. Its not horrible, but noticeable. Turning the volume down a notch or two seems to eliminate it. I wasn’t aware there even was a mini 2 at first (When i searched Amazon for ‘small Bluetooth speaker’), until i did a little more looking around before i finally ordered it. The Mini 3 must have just been released, and i had no idea it existed. So I just ordered the mini 3 as well - simply for the convenience of having the speaker with a type c charger since this will be getting used while I’m at work, and my current phone and tablet both use the type C charger already. I expect overall the volume will be very similar to the mini 2 Since the power output is rated the same - but we shall see. I will report back if I’m able. The soundcore mini 2 is very impressive -FOR its size. So have realistic expectations on just how loud and deep they will be. This is not a replacement for a speaker 5 times is size. That said - for something smaller than a tennis ball - the quality of the sound and volume is very impressive. I would have never expected it to sound as good as it does. Not having received the mini 3 just yet, if you dont care about custom sound settings (i cant be bothered with any of that) and are good with a standard micro USB connector we’ve all been using for years - then you can probably save a few $ and get the mini 2, or even the original mini if they extra watt the 2 and 3 get you doesnt matter to you. For me - this will likely spend the majority of its life in a truck’s cup holder making watching videos or movies during downtime at work while the truck it running - and actually being able to hear it - a possibility. Cases seem available for about $10 - and the mini 2 didnt come with its own charger or cord. The mini 3 comes with a short charger cord, but no brick. Fine by me if it keeps the prices down, since the last thing most of us need is another charger we wont use anyway.
update - after playing with both - i can say they dont sound completely “identical” but very, very close.. if I absolutely HAD to compare them, to my ear - the mini 2 sounds like the bass might be a little better, and the mini 3 sounds like the mids/highs are slightly improved. this might just be due to the speaker grill being slightly different.. they are so close in sound, I wouldn’t even let that make my decision. i think the the most relevant feature is the different charger plug. i personally dont care about custom EQ’s and different presets. its one more headache not needed in my life, so its staying on their default sound setting. I’m not trying to pair 2 speakers, or 20 together with each other, so thats another non issue for me.. my advice would be to let the charger plug decide. if your stuff at home is using a micro USB - then go with the MINI 2.. if your using a type C - then get the MINI 3 and eleimiate an additional cord. the sizes of the overall speakers is almost identical - no real difference that would EVER be a consideration. ive used the mic on both for Bluetooth calls a couple times, nobody ever complained about not being to hear me.. i think the $10 cases are worth buying also.. these speakers are so small you know they are gonna get tossed around, so unless you dont care about scratching them up, i think its a worthy investment.
hopefully this helps someone else decide.
Another edit months later - i use this speaker in my work truck almost every day, and it does everything i need from it, and it does it well. Its plenty loud enough to overcome the noise from a big diesel truck. I use it to listen to audio books, videos, the phone’s gps, and take calls as I’m driving. Its honestly a GREAT speaker. The little lanyard/handle on the mini 3 has also been a useful for me. I use that to hang the speaker from the sun visor in the cab of my big work truck (GMC C8500 series), and it lets the speaker hang and swing back and forth slightly as I drive. This way its not jumping and rattling around in the cup holder (this is a very rough riding vehicle) and taking up that space for my drink. I pull the sun visor out (as if I’m going to turn it against the drivers window) hook the little lanyard on the visor’s peg/hinge and then clip it back into place. Its been great for taking calls as i have to drive. Another great feature is the auto shutoff. If i leave the truck to go work, the speaker will shut itself off after a fair amount of time of not being used and the phone is not in the cab. The $10 case i bought for it is also invaluable. I carry a backpack will all the little things a person needs these days, and i can just throw the speaker inside with 2 tablets, chargers, battery, pill bottles, drinks, ect - and never have to worry about the speaker getting scratched or accidentally getting turned on. The battery life has been great too. I can go a couple days without needing to charge it back up with my limited use during the daytime. The mic on it works well also. I raise my voice (obviously) knowing I’m in a loud truck, and with the speaker hanging from the visor (acting like it has its own little suspension) its kept about head level and you can actually have a conversation with someone. What would be really cool - is if this speaker came with a treaded socket somewhere - that let you use a suction cup mount (like a ram mount) to mount it on the windshield or dash if you wanted to. Its small enough to allow you to do that (if it had that feature) and not obstruct your vision. All things considered - this has been a great purchase. I use the mini 2 at home when i need a small speaker as well, and just purchased (havent received yet) some Anker Bluetooth earbuds as well - just to get the last item I’m carrying around onto the USB type C plug. Absolutely - do NOT hesitate to buy this speaker. If i lost it today, I’d order another one tomorrow...
Another edit - ive been so impressed by Anker’s products i now own many of them. The Mini 2, Mini 3, the ‘upgraded’ Boost, the Motion Plus, the Life A2 NC earbuds, the Liberty 2 Pro earbuds (absolutely amazing sound, best ive ever tried), one of their power banks with the Nano charger, and stand up style wireless charger for my Samsung s8 phone (that even charges through my magpul case without having to make 5 attempts to find the ‘sweet spot’) that i refuse to upgrade. ALL of their products ive found to be very impressive. My Top pick for their speakers (of the ones i own) is EASILY the “upgraded” Boost speaker.. Sounds even better than the larger Motion Plus to be honest. Its so impressive, i bought another for my father and had it delivered to his house. He immediately bought a 2nd for himself and uses them paired together (this is a guy who owns at least a dozen different premium brand headphones). For its size - i dont think youll find anything better without spending some serious money (over $200 or more). Their app to adjust the custom EQ settings (which i still refuse to use for the mini 3 for what i use it for) is a real bonus for a dedicated music listening speaker. The motion plus gets a little louder - but the upgraded Boost (which is much smaller and cheaper) sounds better way better at normal listening volume.
Anker really has me sold on their stuff. If you want earbuds and catch the Liberty 2 Pro’s to go on sale for $99 - or dont mind spending $150 - HIGHLY recommended. Happy shopping.

I had been looking at the Anker Soundcore Mini for a long time, but I already had a similar type blue tooth speaker that I bought on eBay for like $10 years ago and it was still working. When mine finally died, I came back and discovered that the Soundcore Mini had been through two more iterations and was now on the Mini 3. And the reviews about the sound quality, especially the base were all great, so I pulled the trigger.

After I got the unit, I immediately paired it to my phone and was blown away by the quality. But when I took my micro SD card out of the old speaker and tried to put it into the new Soundcore Mini 3, I discovered that Anker had removed that feature from the speaker. I assumed they would have made improvements or added features but I didn''t think they would have removed any, so I didn''t think to check.

One of the main reasons I keep one of these speakers is because I like to go solo camping and when I am sitting alone by the camp fire, it''s nice to be able whip this thing out and enjoy some music, strait from the SD card, without running the battery down on my phone. Even though the Soundcore Mini 3 sounded a dream, it was useless to me without an SD Card slot.

I returned the Mini 3 and got the original Mini. It sounds good but nowhere near as excellent as the Mini 3, but if I have to choose between the best sound or the most important feature (SD Card slot), I''ll go with the slot.

Bought this speaker to listen to casually around the home and bring outdoors on my next hike. Not an audiophile by any means, my only other bluetooth speaker is a bose soundlink mini ii which isn''t really a fair comparison - the bose has much deeper bass and gets much louder, but it''s also much bigger.

Overall I am satisfied with most aspects of the product. The bass is decent for its size and it gets pretty loud for indoor use. Have yet to see how it performs outdoors, but given its indoor performance I think it will be fine outdoors as well. The waterproofing is convenient, the build quality is good, and the USB-C charging is a must have in 2021. The dedicated app also gives some nice options for customizing the EQ and linking up multiple speakers, though I don''t have a second one to test it with. Battery life also seems good; I haven''t done any rigorous testing but the unit arrived half charged and I''ve had it playing for several hours without plugging it in yet.

My only gripe is that I''ve been running into some bluetooth connectivity issues:

1) When connecting to my iPhone, it sometimes sets the volume super high. This is pretty annoying, because it suddenly blasts the music when I press play. This doesn''t happen with any other bluetooth speaker or headphones i own, so I assume it''s not an issue with the phone. I haven''t reproduced it consistently, so I''m not 100% sure when it happens.

2) There is a noticeable audio lag. It''s not a huge deal when I''m just streaming music, but it''s very disruptive when I''m watching a video and it doesn''t match up with the audio output of the speaker. This doesn''t seem to be isolated to a single device, since I''m able to reproduce it on my Macbook Pro, M1 Macbook Air, and iPhone. The lag is a little less noticeable on the iphone compared to the Macbooks, but it''s still there. This delay makes it unusable for watching videos.

If it were not for these issues, I would be rating this speaker 5 stars. I haven''t seen this in any of the other reviews, so I''m not sure if it''s specific to my unit. My hope is that both of these issues can be resolved by a simple firmware update. The soundcore app says I am on firmware version 01.26, which appears to be the latest version.

Pros:
- Waterproof, was able to rinse it with water and it still worked fine
- Small compact form factor is convenient and portable
- Good build quality, doesn''t feel cheap
- App lets you customize EQ and link multiple speakers
- Bass is decent for the size, speaker gets pretty loud
- USB-C charging

Cons
- Bluetooth issues mentioned above
- No 3.5mm audio jack input
- The carrying loop is integrated into the speaker, so when it wears out it won''t be possible to replace it. I would have preferred a hole to attach a lanyard, which would let me replace it if it wears out.

The Mini, Mini 2 and Mini 3 are small enough to fit in a cup holder but can still provide full, rich music with surprisingly good bass. They''re not the best choice for an outdoor party but for personal listening, they''re a great choice, especially the Mini 3.

In this review, I''ll highlight two features of the Mini 3:
-- true 360° sound coverage
-- the "game changing" customizable 9-band graphic equalizer

360° vs Bi-Directional
Cylindrical speakers often claim to have 360° sound coverage but many (Soundcore examples include Flare & Motion Q) are actually bi-directional with two speaker cones pointed in opposite directions. That''s not true 360° and clarity varies depending on what angle the speaker is relative to the listener. The sound can also be a bit muffled because not a lot may be going up above the plane of the speaker.

In the Mini, Mini 2 and Mini 3, a single speaker cone is pointed up, radiating in a true 360° pattern. The result is outstanding clarity, making them great for listening to dialog on TV shows and movies … and conference calls and webmeetings.

Bass seems to be enhanced by the speaker cone acting like a piston, driving low frequencies into the surface the enclosure is sitting on. The result is a surprisingly full and balanced sound and as shown by YouTube reviewer "Oluv", the original Mini outperforms a much larger speaker. Bass is even better on the Mini 2 and Mini 3 due to a slight power increase, a half inch taller enclosure and the addition of a vented passive radiator on the bottom.

So, if they look the same, is the Mini 3 worth $5 more than the Mini 2? Yes definitely. Here''s why ...

Customizable EQ is a "game changer"
Using an iPhone to play Pandora, there''s no way to adjust tone as the Apple EQ only works on their own music apps. In my experience, Pandora often has too much midrange and not enough deep bass or sparkling highs. It really needs EQ ... but until now there was no way to add it from an iPhone.

So, the #1 reason to buy the Mini 3 instead of the other Mini''s is this … it (and some other newer Soundcore speakers) add a new feature allowing the sound to be custom fine-tuned with a 9-band graphic equalizer in a free Soundcore app for iOS & Android. To see which speakers are supported, find the Soundcore app in apps.apple.com or play.google.com and the list will be shown.

Once installed on your phone, click on the Equalizer menu bar. It will probably be in the "Soundcore Signature" preset, which as the attached file I made shows, has the classic "smile curve" with bass and treble higher than the midrange. Of the four Presets, it''s the best in my opinion for playing loud music … and my guess is, it''s also the standard (and only option) in the Mini 2 and original Mini.

But here''s the "game changing" feature … as the attached file shows in the example on the far right side, you can move away from the factory presets by clicking on "Custom". The app then allows 9 different sliders to be dragged up and down to fine tune the sound. This level of control is normally only something a professional musician has … and it can transform the sound. The custom setting example on the right side is "extreme" ... but at low, background volumes, it sounds wonderful.

Bottom line … for the first time coming from my iPhone app, Pandora sounds truly "hi-fi" and I''m enjoying it as I write this review. Highly recommended !

I bought this speaker specifically for my kayak/kayaking. My Vibe Yellowfin 100 has a cup holder in front of the seat that is just big enough for a can or slim bottle but nothing more. I saw a review where the person basically just used it as a speaker holder so I set out to find a good, waterproof speaker that was small enough for the hole. This one fits perfectly. The bass reverberates throughout the entire kayak and the little lanyard is perfect for hooking to a carabiner to a bungee cord if you choose to do so. The sound is really good and the bluetooth pairing is quick and easy every time. My ONLY complaint is that the buttons are really hard to see in low-light settings as they are black on black. Maybe that''s just my old eyes though.

EDIT: be careful where you set this speaker as the passive radiator on the bottom vibrates a LOT from the bass and will cause it to shimmy right off a ledge; this has already happened to me a few times but it has held up to the falls.

Good speaker but you''re better off getting the Mini 2 if you want stereo sound. Anker was not clear at all about cutting this feature and I just wasted $70

The competing Sony SRS-XB12 does support stereo sound and they''ll be getting my orders after this. Loyal Anker customer for many years but y''all messed up

Let me start by saying, I cannot give it 5 stars since that would mean absolutely nothing should be bad or disliked about the product. That goes for all products since everything has its Pro''s and Con''s.

Design is nice, small and sturdy, it has a strap to carry around wherever you go. I brought mine on a camping trip with the family and it had enough sound/volume to have us enjoying the camping trip.
Battery life is insane, due to the fact that this speaker does not have any RGB it probably holds a longer charge.
Sound quality is more you can expect from such a small form factor speaker, I am no audiophile but I enjoy listening to all genres and even though the deeps are coming a bit short the overall sound is good. Do not expect a studio sound quality or a home theater sound since we are talking about a very small speaker. Believe me you will be surprised by the sound coming from such a small speaker.
App support is very good, you can play around with the EQ. The "Soundcore Signature" EQ setting is for me still the best since all is nicely balanced out.

Don’t let it’s diminutive size fool you, it’s sound will amaze you. I’m a big Anker and Soundcore fan, with multiple Anker products and several Soundcore products including the Soundcore 2 and 3 Bluetooth speakers, Motion+ and Infinity Pro soundbar, Liberty and Life P3 true wireless earbuds. I’ve tried the Soundcore mini and mini 2 and was unimpressed with their performance so they were both returned. But the inclusion of the Soundcore app drew me to order the Mini 3, and I’m totally impressed. The app’s equalizer allows customization of the sound that makes this little gem sound unbelievable. It produces a thumping robust bass sound and a full midrange with nice high notes. It’s constructed with the typical Anker/Soundcore attention to both simplicity and high quality. A perfect traveling companion, it will fit easily into a backpack or small travel bag. It will pair with your phone or tablet in seconds, and a full charge of 4 hours gives up to 15 hours of play time, depending on your volume level. Is it a perfect party speaker? Perhaps not, I’ll use my Motion+ for that. But as a “personal” Bluetooth speaker, you won’t go wrong buying this little gem of a speaker. It’s another Soundcore hit, in their line of very affordable Bluetooth speakers that consistently out performs their overpriced competitors.
